Palms and pale sand along the Saint-Jean shore

Beachfront Resorts

Sand sits within a few steps at seven of the stays compared here, spread across the resort cluster at Grand Cul-de-Sac, the bay-side hotels of Saint-Jean and one property at Anse des Cayes (see Luxury Resorts). Among the three that publish a rate, from-prices run from $1,608 up to $2,709 for one night, and the other four keep figures off the listing until dates are entered, so the live listing is where the number finally shows. One legal point covers them all: French law makes every beach on the island public, so a hotel can charge for its own loungers and facilities but can never close the sand itself.

How The Prices And Scores Compare

All seven scores here sit on the 5-point hotel scale, taken from live listing data, which keeps the group directly comparable. Most land between 4.1 and 4.8, and one shows a perfect 5, though on very few reviews, so treat that score lightly. The from-prices are read as the lowest advertised rate for two adults sharing one room for a single night, checked in January and again in March, both high season. Treat them as benchmarks for each property, never as quotes, since demand moves rates constantly, and where a stay lists nothing, the booking page is the only place that shows the price for your dates.

Weighing One Bay Against Another

The bay does much of the sorting. Grand Cul-de-Sac, the sheltered lagoon shore on the northern side of the island, holds the densest cluster of these stays, two of them rated 4.8 out of 5. Saint-Jean curves around its well-known bay, with shops, restaurants and the airport road all close at hand. Anse des Cayes, the third setting, opens onto the Atlantic and pulls a different visitor, swimmers who enjoy some wave energy and walkers after a rawer stretch of sand.

Start by deciding between a full resort and a smaller hotel on the same shore. Grand Cul-de-Sac sets its largest properties beside calm, shallow water, while Saint-Jean keeps village conveniences a short stroll from the rooms. The scores span only 4.1 to 5 out of 5, a tight range, so let the bay and the rhythm you want carry the decision more than the rating.

What To Settle Before Booking

Rooms facing the water go first in high season, November to April, with the festive peak running about 20 December to early January, so a decision made in autumn leaves the wider choice. March stays busy, and the from-prices on this page are the lower of the January and March reads for the same room category. One cost stays constant whatever the month: the taxe de sejour works out at 5% of the real price of the stay, excluding ancillary services such as dining, whatever the number of guests. Expect it inside the total on the booking page rather than as a surprise at the front desk.
